Our Guardian Dogs

Josie

Josie truly is our protector. From keeping the goats and chickens on the right side of the fence to alerting us when something is not quite right. She is the boss of everything on the farm - at least in her own mind. The cats would disagree. Her most amazing ability is finding the occasional egg scattered in the chicken yard for me to collect - without breaking or eating it! If you look close in the pictures, and you will see Josie guarding the fence line across from the two kids enjoying their first day out in the pasture.

Samson

Samson is all about the love and cuddles, until he senses a predator. He is such a great compliment to Josie and they have become very close. Samson patiently makes friends with all the farm animals and we are glad to have him to protect them. He even lets the goats and cats think they are in charge, see how he submits to a yearling doe.

Jasper

Jasper is Samson's new patrolling buddy. Josie takes the rear guard and prioritizes the house and yard areas. I'm super excited about two of Jasper's traits. 1.) He is a bird dog. He will alert the other dogs to chase away the birds of prey that circle the pastures. Neither Josie or Samson seem to notice the birds on their own, but will follow Jasper. I love seeing the birds fly away and the dogs come prancing back all happy with themselves. 2.) Jasper jumps the fences! Another thing neither of the other dogs do. This means a predator on either side of the fence will have to contend with Jasper. Other than that he is still a puppy and fills us with joy over his puppy antics.
